Events: GBES Geocaching Technology and Paperless Caching
Posted by randallh on Thursday, January 28, 2010 (16:12:59) (9 reads)

Come enjoy some discussion based around paperless geocaching and some of the software and technology used to support our hobby. Join us Wednesday February 10th at 6:30pm at Round Table Pizza, 1259 Baring Boulevard (Corner of Sparks and Barring Blvd.)
This will be mostly informal discussion of how to use some geocaching programs (mainly GSAK), and how to go paperless with your geocaching info. An outline of what we'll cover will be:
1) Using GSAK to manage pocket queries and .gpx files, and exporting data to GPSr units and other devices.
2) Different forms of paperless caching and basics on how to implement and use them.
3) Using a cell phone and textmarking to receive cache information on the go.
And possible topics that may be covered depending on time and interest.
4) Using Iphone for geocaching and apps available for this purpose
5) Android and Cacheberry programs for geocaching.
This will be more of a group discussion on the topics instead of a formal lecture, we encourage anyone who would like to learn about these topics to come, as well as anyone who feels they have something to contribute to the discussion and help others.
Please comment or contact me with any questions or suggestions. Look forward to seeing everyone there!
